Advocacy

We continued to peruse the implementation of the WHO recommended Alcohol Handrub. Perusing direction from the Director of Medical Education, Government of Assam, which was issued following our advocacy, the Gauhati Medical College Hospital, Guwahati submitted a detailed project report, and a local manufacturer has been contracted to produce the Handrub at a competitive rate. We are closely following the development and hope to report first ever planned roll out of Alcohol Handrub in Gauhati Medical College Hospital next year. Our strategic aim is to facilitate roll out to other state institutions.

We are continuing our informal effort to have the clinical departments adopt antibiotic stewardship following the direction issued by the Director of Medical Education at our behest. But there appears to be very strong barrier both cultural and logistical in terms of adopting uniform antibiotic policy and guidelines. Our plan for next year is to produce the policy and guideline template which individual department will be able to customize. Moreover, it is our aspiration to have at least one department to adopt uniform policy and protocol so that others can learn from the exercise and emulate the exercise.
